Synopsis

An Arabian song prayer, Bismillah (in the name of God), sounds in a cramped room. Samira is singing the song. She’s 10 years old, Tunisian, she has curly hair and wide black eyes. This time she prays alone, her brother, Jamil (17), has been having stomach ache for two days. It’s strong, constant pain and he cannot even speak. From the beginning Samira looks like a responsible girl, she prays, she clears the table, she takes care of her brother as she can, their father is out of town and returns tomorrow. That night Jamil’s condition getting worse every hour. If they call an ambulance they can be sent away from Italy, back to Tunisia. They have been living in Calabria illegally for seven months.
Little Samira will face a long and difficult night.

    Alessandro Grande

    Alessandro Grande (born in 1983) is an Italian director and screenwriter, Doctor in Performing Arts at the University of Tor Vergata and teacher in directing and screenplay. He achieved notoriety in the shorts circuit in 2010 with "In my prison", presented as the only short work at the Roma Fiction Fest (2010) and then obtaining over 100 official selections throughout the world and more than 40 awards. In 2013 he presents "Margerita" at the 43rd Giffoni Film Festival. The short has so far received 78 awards including: Best Film at the Ischia International Film Festival, Best Director Award at the Cyprus Int. Film Festival, and official selections at major festivals in the world: New York, Budapest, Pakistan, Toulouse, Montreal, Corinthia, Seoul. Margerita was in the five finalists of the 69th edition of Nastri d’Argento. It also won the Federico Fellini award and became a F.I.C.E. Short, distributed in 450 cinemas.
    In November 2017, Alessandro realizes the shortfilm Bismillah.
