Synopsis

“Black China” is a documentary journey to the Eldorado of today – to China. The times of the “American Dream”, a key concept of the 20th century, are over. New powers come into play. Economic miracle China moves into the fast lane and represents a ‘Chinese Dream’. What kind of dream is it? What does an “African Dream” look like? A documentary journey of African immigrants, who are not taking a boat to conquer Europe, but board a plane to travel to the new Eldorado. This process is on the rise…

    Inigo Westmeier

    Born in Brussels in 1973, Inigo Westmeier studied from 1994 to 1999 at the Film School in Moscow with a degree “Master of Arts”. He completed his postgraduate studies with a specialisation in camera (Diploma 2003) at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg . Subsequently, Inigo Westmeier worked as a cameraman for feature films, international commercials and cinema documentaries, including four episodes for the TV production “Innocent” and the episode film “Germany 09” (2009).
    His first major success was the documentary film about a Russian children’s prison “Alone in Four Walls” (2009). The film was selected at numerous prestigious festivals, including the Sundance Film Festival, and won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival and the Max Ophüls Prize, among others.
    “Dragon Girls” (2012) is his first full-length feature documentary film which he directed and produced. The German Film and Media Review (FBW) awarded the film the title “Particularly valuable”. Dragon Girl was co-produced with GAP Films, Bayerischer Rundfunk and ARTE, funded by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, DFFF German Film Fund, FFA Film Fund and the Hessen Film Fund. To date it has seen the following success: WINNER Hot Docs Toronto Award, WINNER Deutscher Kamera Preis: Kamera Award, WINNER Deutscher Regiepreis Metropolis, WINNER Brooklyn FF Spirit Award, WINNER Children’s Jury Prize Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, WINNER Hessischer Filmpreis
